Per Richard Musselman

Lehigh County Deed Book #13, page 363

Date: 15 Mar. 1849
Consideration: $600.00
Description: Messuage tenement and tract of land situate in the township of Heidelberg bounded and described as follows: Beginning at a stone thence by land of Nicholas Peter south Y4 degree east 25.1 perches to a stone thence by land of John Schleicher south 54'iS degrees west 43 perches to a stone thence by land of John Mosser north 42'iS degrees west 40.6 perches to a stone thence by land of Samuel Kistler and Abraham Miller north 40'iS degrees east 23.8 perches to a stone and north 43 'is degrees west 8.5 perches to a stone thence by land of John and Daniel Kistler north 75'iS degrees east 23.5 perches to a stone and north 32 degrees west 52 perches to a stone thence by land of Casper Handwerk north 61 degrees east 70 perches to a post thence by land of John Schleicher south 15 degrees east 30.7 perches to a stone and south 70 degrees east 6% perches to a post and south 15 degrees east 5 perches to a post and south 78 degrees west 15'iS perches to a stone and south 14 degrees east 31.2 perches to a post and south 8 degrees east 19.8 perches to the place of beginning; Containing 34 acres and 116 perches strict measure. It being a part of several tracts which John Schleicher and the said Daniel Schleicher party hereto had held as Tenants in Common and whereas the said John Schleicher and Daniel Schleicher by their Deeds of Partition dated the 23rd day of July 1846 parted and divided the said that the above described property and tract of land with the appurtenances thereunto belonging became the property of the said Daniel Schleicher party hereto and to his heirs and assigns forever .....
... .. all to be granted unto the said Jacob Smith his heirs and assigns to and for the only proper use and behoof of the said Jacob Smith his heirs and assigns forever under and subject to the payment and compliance of Y2 part of a certain agreement made between the widow and heirs of Nicholas Schleicher late of the aforesaid place deceased dated 12 Nov.1831 which gives a certain house room and possession on the premises to Solome Schleicher during her natural life and the arrearages due to the Commonwealth for Patenting thereto and the said Daniel Schleicher for himself his heirs executors and administrators doth by these presents covenant grant and agree to and with the said Jacob Smith his heirs and assigns that he the said Daniel Schleicher and his heirs all and singular (deliver the described property to Jacob Smith) except the possession due to Solome Schleicher as mentioned.

The Deed in 1849, also in Heidelberg Township, is a much more interesting document. The document lists a neighboring property owner as Samuel Kistler. Is this Magdalena's father? It also refers to Daniel and John Schleicher as previous "Tenants in Common" of this property. It also infers that Daniel and John had acquired this property by being named in an agreement between" ... the widow and heirs of Nicholas Schleicher" in 1831. Upon fmding this information I did a thorough search of the Recorder of Deeds Office in the Lehigh County Courthouse. I enlisted the help of a clerk, but neither of us could find a copy of an agreement dated 12 Nov.1831 or a Deed of Partition dated the 23rd day of July 1846 which transferred sole ownership to Daniel Schleicher. This was very disappointing since either document may have helped resolve some of the relationships between these individuals. I suspect the named Solome may have been a sister to Daniel. She may have had a physical or mental handicap which prevented her from taking care of herself. Upon first reading of this document I immediately thought Solome was the widow of Nicholas. However, after more careful reading of this paragraph I now believe the unnamed widow made the agreement with the heirs for the care of Solome. The most logical interpretation is that Solome was a daughter of the widow.

From Lisa Slaski in response to Musselmans report

I think you now have proof positive that Daniel is Nicholas' heir/son! You have a deed that essentially says that Daniel, John and Salome are heirs of Nicholas. I saw the will for Salome that provides the names of all her apparent siblings, including Daniel and John. All the other siblings are sisters and married except Elisabeth. Elisabeth and Salome are living together in the 1850 census. The only other Schleichers in the vicinity of Heidelberg are known descendants of John through his son Valentin. I have definite proof of this relationship through a document stating all children of John Schleicher and his wife "Odea". And most of Valentin's children are found within the church records, so their lineage is pretty straight forward

Lisa Slaski has another child of Daniel and Magdalena "Isabella". I have never seen anyone with this name.
