Eva Mikesell 471
- Born: Apr 14, 1730, Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania 470
- Marriage (1): Johannes George Harter about 1753 in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania 204,470
- Died: Abt 1800, Virginia about age 70 472
General Notes:
Per Robert D. Harter, he feels that Eva cannot be the wife of Johannes George, we are following up on this in 2007
I am now 95 to 99 percent sure that Johann George Harter was NOT the son of Andraes and Anna Catharina (Zahner) Harter as assumed by Byron Harter when he put together "A Harter Journal". He just does not fit into that family and I have found no evidence that he should. I wish I knew Byron's justification in putting him there, but, alas, he departed this life shortly after putting together the Journal.
I FEEL THAT EVA IS NOT THE HUSBAND OF JOH GEORGE BUT LEAVE HERE HERE FOR NOW
Thank you for contacting me about Eva Mikesell. It gives me a chance to correct misinformation that may well have come from my naive post on the internet (once there it takes a life of its own!!) I was first contacted by an Adam researcher, who told me of Eva's marriage to Jonas. There is a record of Eva Mikesell marrying Jonas Adam in the Marriage Records of Rev. John Casper Stoever, http://www.pa-roots.com/~lancaster/church/stoever/stoevermarriage1.html . The will of Martin Mikesell, Eva's brother, also clearly and unambiguously includes a mention of "Eva, wife of Jonas Adam" as a daughter of Andraes Meixel. (Lancaster County, PA., Deeds, Record Book XX, Volume II, page 639-645)
A few months ago I found in the records of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Congregation, LeHigh County, PA.: Oct 26, 1752 George Herder m. Eva Bracker, Christian Bracker's daughter.
Again, this is weak evidence to go on, but I have found very few Georg Harters at that time so, given that the time frame is correct in relation to their oldest child's birth (1754), am inclined to believe this is the correct marriage until such a time as I am proven wrong.
Georg and Eva may have been in Berks County prior to appearing in Frederick County, MD. In the Tulpehocken Church Records, 1730-1800, Christ (Little Tulpehocken) Church and Altalaha Church, Rehrersburg. Translated by Frederick S. Werser. The Pennsylvania German Society, Breinigsville, PA. 1982. we find the following baptismal entry: "A daughter, Catharine, born 24 Mar 1760 . Sponsors Georg Harter and his wife. Father - Joh. Georg Radebach."
Noted events in her life were:
• Alternate Spell: Anna Eva Midesell. 204,470
• Baptism, May 3, 1730, Moravian Church, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. 472
Eva married Johannes George Harter about 1753 in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania 204.,470 (Johannes George Harter was born about 1729 in Wurttenburg, Germany 204,470 and died about 1800 in Franklin Co, Virginia 204,470.)
Marriage Notes:
Per Robert D. Harter
This marriage is based on circumstantial evidence, and has never been proven. Eva is known to have married Jonas Adam (verified) 26 September 1748, Lebanon Co, Pennsylvania. No further record. It is felt that Jonas died and Eva subsequently married J. George Harter. One item of circumstantial evidence for this is as follows: ______________________________________________________ The Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church (Formerly St. Peter's) - Frederick Co., MD parish register 1767-1889 shows the following. Maria Catharine Herter, B. 29 May 1771; Bapt. 29 July 1771; parents Georg. & Eva; sponsors Andreas Meixel and Catharina. (Andreas and Catharina would have been Eva's oldest brother and his wife) ______________________________________________________
