Samuel was an extensive land owner. In 1803 he built a very substantial stone mansion in Kistler Valley, which remained his home to the time of his death, and which has until recently (1916) been the property of his descendants. He built the Kistler mill near Tripoli. For many years he was an Elder of the Jerusalem Church, and it was while he held that office that the present house of worship was erected, 1812-1814.

He was in the Revolutionary war and served in the Northhampton Co. Militia for the west portion of Lynn Twp. DAR Patriots Index

His first wife Elizabeth Ladich, bore him three children, and his second wife, Catharine Brobst, twelve. He was in the Rev. War and served in the Northhampton Co. Samuel was the youngest and most prolific son. His children were also prolific; Samuel's family is the largest branch of the Kistler family.
Gravestones at JER show Samuel, 9/20/1754-4/24/1822, and his (second) wife, Catherine nee Brobst, 12/16/1767-3/26/1845.The DAR Patriot's Index also show Samuel's first marriage to Maria Elizabeth Ladich; papers at HSBC show that Maria Ladich was born 11/22/1761. Based on baptismal entries for Samuel's children, his first wife must have died 1779-1788.

I just got a reply from a KISTLER with the info they have on the
SECHLER ties -- actually, i wrote Floyd KISTLER and he passed it off to
his sister, Ruth HERTZOG of Kutztown Pennsylvania. She does not have a computer.
Here's what she sent, reorganized from her handwritten letter:

The three youngest sons of Samuel J. KISTLER (1754) who m. Catharine
Barbara BROBST (1767) married SECHLER girls:

(1) Jesaias (Jesse) KISTLER 3.21.1806 - d. abt 1846, m. 4.29.1828 Sarah
(Sallie) SECHLER b. abt 1808, d. 1863; bur. Austintown OH. Sarah's
parents were Henrich (Henry) SECHLER and Juliann. When Sarah was widow
she m. Daniel REISER, a widower, whose wife Mary had d. 1847.
They had 8 children: Catharine, Juliana, Andrew, Samuel, Lydia,
Josiah, Levi, Sarah.
Her parents: Henry SECHLER 1768-1836, Julianna 1772-1838.

(2) Carl E. (Charles) KISTLER 12.3.1808 - 10.5.1886 m. 6.14.1829
Rebecca SECHJLER 1.14.1802 - 10.8.1883; they moved to OH 1832; in 1884
lived near Warren OH, bur. Newton Falls OH. Rebecca was a sister to
Sarah, with parents also Henrich & Juliann SECHLER.
They had 8 children: Levi F., Julia, Catharine, Charles E., Hannah,
Rebecca, Samuel, Daniel.

(3) Levi KISTLER 7.8.1811 - 2.9.1884, m. 10.21.1832 Esther SECHLER
9.30.1813 - 1.24.1875, lived Lynnport Pennsylvania, bur. Jacob's Church in
Jacksonville Pennsylvania. Esther's parents were Joseph SECHLER and Catharine
WANNEMACHER. After Esther died, Levi m. a widow, Maria Anna RIESER,
his housekeeper, on 3.8.1875.
They had 3 children: (a) Noah M. m. Sarah MOSER & moved to West Penn
Twp & had 5 children [JRB's records show Noah 12.29.1834 - 9.24.1899,
wf. 10.15.1835 - 11.30.1911, both bur. Union Cem at 12th & Chew Sts
Allentown Pennsylvania -- they must have retired to Allentown], (b) John Franklin
married & had a son [JRB's records show John F. b. 12.21.1836 bapt
Ebenezer Ch New Tripoli Pennsylvania]; and (c) Elmira E. died young [JRB's
records show Elmira E. 1.6.1841 - 4.22.1841).
Ruth Hertzog has notes from Levi's will that say wife Esther had a
brother David SECHLER, and a Gideon SECHLER is mentioned [probably a
brother, per JRB's records], and Sebina, dau. of Elias SECHLER and
James, son of Elias SECHLER was executor [is Elias another bro. of
Levi's wf Esther?--JRB's records show Elias SECHLER 7.31.1821 -
1.8.1868, m. Polly aka Anna Maria Magdalena KISTLER 3.10.1823 -
10.10.1852, she bur. Jacobs Union Ch Jacksonville Pennsylvania]. None of Levi's 3
children is mentioned in his will.

Samuel Kistler, the grandfather of Samuel J. Kistler, was born Sept. 20, 1754, and died April 24, 1822. His first wife, Mary Elizabeth Ladich, was the mother of three children, - Barbara, Jacob S., and Samuel. Jacob S. Kistler, the father of Samuel J. Kistler, was born Oct. 5, 1781, and died Oct. 7, 1849. By his second wife, Catharine Brobst, he had the following children: John S., Michael, Christian, Daniel S., David, Jesse, Charles, Levi, Maria Elizabeth, Catharine, Salome, and Magdalena.

Jacob Snyder, and died in Ohio; Catharine m. George Weida, and died in Lowhill; Salome m. Jacob Mosser, the tanner, and died in Allentown; and Magdalene m. Solomon Mosser, and is probably buried at Lynnville. The descendants of Samuel Kistler are scattered all over the United States. Many of them have become successful business and professional men. An unusually large number are physicians and ministers of the Gospel.

Samuel married Maria Elizabeth Ladich, daughter of Jacob Ladich and Maria Elizabeth Karr, about 1778. (Maria Elizabeth Ladich was born on Nov 22, 1761 in Greenwich Twp, Berks Co, Pennsylvania and died about 1787 ⁵⁶⁰.)

Samuel next married Catharine Barbara Probst, daughter of Matthias George Probst and Maria Magdalena Stambach, on Feb 11, 1788.¹⁰⁴ (Catharine Barbara Probst was born on Dec 16, 1767 in Lynn Twp Lehigh Co., Pennsylvania,⁵⁶¹ died on Mar 26, 1845 in Lynn Twp Lehigh Co., Pennsylvania ¹⁰⁴ and was buried on Mar 26, 1845 in Jerusalem Union "Red" Church (Stony Run, Albany Twp, Berks Co., Pennsylvania) ¹⁰⁴.)
